COMMUNITY PROGRAMS
The Long Beach Alumnae Chapter is deeply committed to meeting the needs of the communities we serve. Through a wide range of award-winning programs, we provide vital resources, hands-on service, and transformative support for families, youth, and vulnerable populations across our service areas.

From food and resource distribution to youth mentorship, health and wellness initiatives, economic empowerment efforts, and collaborative service projects, our work reflects Delta Sigma Theta’s mission in action. In partnership with local organizations, schools, and community leaders, we strive to create meaningful, measurable impact—one program, one family, and one neighborhood at a time.

12 MONTHS OF SERVICE
Partner With Us
Through our 12 Months of Service
initiative, we partner with local organizations year-round to
meet essential community needs.
Each month, we coordinate food collections, clothing and hygiene
drives, baby supply donations, and other critical support efforts that strengthen families across our service areas.

If your group is interested in
partnering with us on a service project, please email our Chapter President at president@lbadst.org.

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
We promote economic empowerment through programs that build financial stability and generational wealth. Our partnership with Habitat for Humanity LA through the Sankofa Series provides first-time homebuyers with essential education and resources.
We also uplift local economies by supporting Black owned businesses through intentional engagement. Across our service efforts (including holiday basket distributions with FDIC financial tips) we ensure families receive both immediate support and the tools needed to build lasting economic security.

EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT
For over a decade, the Long Beach Alumnae
Chapter has invested in the growth and confidence
of young girls through the Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy and Delta G.E.M.S. programs. These initiatives offer academic enrichment, mentorship,
life skills training, and cultural awareness.

In addition to year-round programming,
we proudly award $10,000 in scholarships
annually to deserving high school seniors and
create opportunities for learning through community partnerships, service-learning projects, and leadership development. To join one our educational development programs, please review the events calendar linked above or visit the scholarships page.

INTERNATIONAL AWARENESS
& INVOLVEMENT
Our global impact extends beyond our local service areas through initiatives that support and uplift communities worldwide. The Long Beach Alumnae Chapter proudly sponsors a young girl at the I Can Fly International School in Kenya, providing tuition, books, and supplies through a 1.5-year commitment that expands educational access and opportunity. This work aligns with Delta’s International Day of the Girl Child initiative and reflects our dedication to empowering girls across the globe.

We further support international causes through observances such as World AIDS Day and additional national initiatives of Delta Sigma Theta, strengthening our connection to global advocacy, awareness, and service.

PHYSICAL & MENTAL HEALTH
The Long Beach Alumnae Chapter is committed to promoting wellness, access to care, and holistic health across our communities. Through partnerships with local organizations, we support critical needs by coordinating grocery deliveries with Long Beach Community Table, hosting donation drives for Black Infant Health, and providing essential period products to the Women’s Gender & Equity Center at CSULB and the Women’s Shelter of Long Beach.

We also lead impactful wellness-focused events, including the Black Superwoman Mental Health Event and our community-centered Community Health and Awareness Fair, which offers free health screenings, resources, and education. From advocating for mental health to supporting maternal and infant wellness, our chapter works year-round to strengthen the physical and emotional well-being of those we serve.
POLITICAL AWARENESS
& INVOLVEMENT
The Long Beach Alumnae Chapter is dedicated to strengthening civic engagement and advancing social justice throughout our service areas. Each year, we lead voter registration efforts including our “The Time Is Now” and "Politics 101" workshops, and provide ongoing Social Action Preparedness resources that keep our community informed and empowered.

Our commitment extends to our youth through Social Justice Day programming with Delta Academy and Delta GEMS, while partnerships with local organizations allow us to engage residents in meaningful dialogue and action. Whether educating new voters, advocating for equitable policies, or amplifying community voices, our chapter remains steadfast in promoting political awareness, involvement, and justice for all.
